What a question - there are as many answers as there are watches for men. An that is quite a few in anybody's book. You could write a book about men's watches but we will make an effort and try and scratch the surface in this article.

First of all this is a difficult question. You have to know the man in question. Who is he? What does he like to do? Where does he work. Just what kind of a man is he.

If the watch gets caught in machinery or is otherwise pulled or snapped, this type of watch band will break automatically and keep both the watch and the wearer from injury.

Other timepieces have large face dials that are very easy to see and read. The advantage of course is that you can read it without having to put on your glasses and make a special point of checking your watch. Having the large dial makes it easy to do so surreptitiously. These watches as are most watches today, are moisture resistant and waterproof often to a depth of fifty feet. That does not mean though, that you should wear it while diving. It does mean though that you could wear it swimming without particular worry.

If you are choosing a wristwatch that will only be worn occasionally to that special occasion, you have a huge number of options. High end watches can look extravagant or contain unique and very beautiful features. They may be worn either with formal wear or for that casual evening of dining out.

With the high end watches, much of the things that make them special, you cannot see. They are in the inner workings of the watch. Yes, the face of the watch may be something to behold. Diamond number points for example can be used to make the watch 'appear more attractive'. There may be other gemstones, different colors on the face bed that make it special as well.

These special occasion wrist watches are usually more delicate than your typical everyday watch. They will require more than the usual care and maintenance. Perhaps a cleaning and tune up once a year at your high end jewelers. This will help you maintain both its functionality and its beauty.

When choosing one of the exclusive designs, remember that you are paying for the exclusivity perhaps more than the actual functionality of the watch. And the price can be extremely steep for anyone's wallet. Yet the gold and diamond (usually important) can provide just the look you want to wear or want your loved one to wear.

The very best watches for men encompass as many features as possible into the watch that is meant to be worn. As many features doesn't have to mean you over do it, but it does mean to provide the functions that my be most useful.

For example: a leather band instead of plastic; or a stainless steel or gold band; the shape of the face being easy to read with the numbers or number points an appropriate size. It wouldn't do to have to keep squinting at the watch to be able to read it.

Features are important, but you should not need a fifty page manual just to put it on. Sometimes simplicity really is the best.
